Long Island Migration Continues:
There is a growing trend of United States residents leaving Long Island to move to other states then there are United States residents moving into Long Island. Most of the people migrating away from Long Island happened to be in the fifty five to sicty five year old age group; which may be tied into retiring into a more temperate area. Some feel that there are not enough job opportunities, and move with their companies that are relocating to other regions due to this. This reduction in the Long Island population may threaten tax rates and the social fabric of the area; yet the loss is balanced with the influx of immigrants relocating to this area.
I found this article interesting since my father wants to move off Long Island, and relocate to another major branch of his company, after I have moved to college. My friend's families are also looking to move to ifferent areas, as they have less job opportunities here.
It was intriguing how some of the opinions stated in the article, asuch as the lack of job opportunity is affecting the population diversity of the island. I also found it interesting how the article statd that we were dependent upon immigrants to maintain our population, though I do feel that most of these immigrants may be illegal, and offer no benefit to our economy.
